[JMM] Warm Fuzzy Feeling

The first sign that something was up outside the panic room was a deep rumbling chainsaw of a snarl that Ruby knew instantly without even needing to blink. She’d heard it before, and an unhappy Jinx was never a good sign. And if Jinx was here with no Alec in tow that meant that the angels had finally caught wise to the fact that Lucifer was out and walking around. Bobby didn’t seem all that keen on opening the door at the moment, but Ruby couldn’t find herself having the energy to care. If she died, she went back to Hell and became a demon again. If she didn’t, she’d be able to keep Alec’s poor dog company till he got back.
The door slid open and Jinx looked at her briefly, but didn’t move. She knew he was waiting for some kind of confirmation that Alec was really gone. There was a long silence, and then she watched as the dog’s head dropped, defeated and miserable. And Ruby really couldn’t blame him. She moved forward, gently taking him by the collar and pulling him inside the panic room. If he was going to be miserable, he could at least be miserable in the room where a demon couldn’t pop up and kill him.
“C’mon, Jinx,” she sighed softly. “Let’s go mope.”
The dog gave a bit of a huff that showed that he could out-mope her with the best of ‘em but right now she didn’t care. She just grabbed the bottle of whiskey she had been working on and pulled Jinx up to sit on the cot with her as she took another swig.
“You really think now is the best time to be drinkin’ that?” Bobby asked skeptically as Jinx settled his head into her lap, letting her scratch him behind the ears.
“This is Lucifer, Bobby,” she sighed. “Either the angels are gonna pull a win out of their asses or we’re all gonna die, but either way, there’s about jack shit we can do about it. So I don’t know about you, but me? I’m getting hammered.”
There was a bit of a scoff, but that was the last thing that Bobby had to say on that.
A few hours later, Bobby was catching some shut eye, Jinx was stretched out lengthwise on the cot next to her, and Ruby was well on the way to smashed and using him as a body pillow. She had enough sense not to be too loud, but she couldn’t keep her mouth shut. Thinking in her head wasn’t working quite as well as thinking out loud does.
“I screwed everything up, Jinx.” The dog perked up slightly, giving her a look that she’d seen him Alec when he thought he was being a little nuts. She just gave him a look right back before cuddling in closer to him. He wasn’t what she wanted to be cuddling. No offense to the dog, as he was quite snuggly, but he wasn’t six plus feet of warm human being or otherwise Sam-shaped, and that was just depressing her even more. Because of her, her usual cuddle partner was being possessed by the source of all evil, and now that she was human again, there was nothing she could do about it. “This sucks.”
Then she realized what Jinx being here meant, again, and she pushed away from the dog with a bit of a scowl. “You know, you should be angrier with me.” And there was the idiot look again, something that only a dog could pull off with that efficiency. “I’m just saying. Alec would be down here safe and sound if it hadn’t been for me. If I hadn’t made my stupid deal, and went and got Sam to use his powers and put him in the same room as that slut—”
Yes, Ruby totally wasn’t happy with Amy right now—why would you ask?
She didn’t bother finishing the sentence. The dog knew what she was talking about. Instead, she flopped back on the cot. Things were starting to get hazy and blurry and she knew that she should be lying on her side in case she puked, but right now she didn’t really care. Aspiration would probably save her a slow and painful death. Or aspiration was slow and painful. She was too drunk to remember which, but if that was the case it would save her from a slower and more painful death. Or something.
Her eyes started to close as her vision started to swirl, and she could feel Jinx settling in closer. “Lucifer’s gonna kill him, Jinx,” she said softly. A cold nose pressed to the side of her neck and she let him stay close. “He’s gonna kill him and I can’t stop him. And it sucks.”
And with that she was out—and was going to have one hell of a hangover in the morning.
